English is our official language that is spoken worldwide. And it's very important to be an expert in this language when it comes to your professional career. Barriers in communication can be a major hindrance for your job.
Don't you feel embarrassed when you fumble for words when you are in a discussion with your superior or in a meeting or an important presentation? Many a times, you wish to say more, you have lots of ideas but you do not know how to frame good sentences.
Here are some workable tips on how to improve your English vocabulary:
- Most important is strong will and urge to learn.
- Read newspaper headlines loudly. Not so loud that you disturb your neighbors. But loud enough that you can hear yourself.
- Record your voice when you read or speak in English. This will help you understand your voice projection.
- Request any of your family members or friends to help you with your vocabulary. Talk in English with them. You may feel awkward in the beginning. But later it would be fine.
- (You are going to love this tip) Watch English movies, especially with sub-titles. This will help you understand how English is spoken globally. It's good to comprehend the international standards.
- Think in English. We usually think in the language which we are comfortable in. If we start thinking in English, speaking will become easier.
- Religiously follow "Rule of 21". Follow English speaking for 21 days and you will see the difference. Do not stop after 21 days. This rule helps you to make this practice a routine and part of your daily life.
- If you have presentation or discussion in the office, practice as many times as possible at home unless you become perfect.
- Try writing blogs or personal diary in English.
- Remember, nothing in this world is impossible, because the word "impossible" says by itself that "i-m-possible"
